Canadian Federation of University Women – Dr. Margaret McWilliams Pre-Doctoral Fellowship

Value of award: $12, 000
Length of award: 1 year
Level of study: PhD
Criteria: Available only to women. The candidate must have completed at least one full calendar year as a full-time student in doctoral level studies, and be a full-time student, at the time of application. The award is tenable in Canada or abroad. Deadline is November 1st.

Canadian Federation of University Women – Dr. Alice E. Wilson Award

Value of award: $5, 000 (six awards per year)
Length of award: 1 year
Level of study: MA or PhD
Criteria: Available only to women. For graduate studies in any field, with special consideration given to candidates returning to study after at least three years. Deadline is November 1st. Two master’s awards are given and four doctoral awards are given.

Criteria: Available only to women. Open for graduate students in any field, but the applicant must justify the relevance of the work to women. Deadline is November 1st.

Criteria: Available to women who are studying at a university where one of the languages of instruction is French. Deadline is November 1st.

Level of study: MA or PhD (except the first year of the first master’s degree) Criteria: Available only to women. Preference given to a holder of a degree from Acadia University. Deadline is November 1st.

Criteria: To assist female students in Canada who are pursuing graduate studies which will lead to a career which will help other women (in the fields of medicine, law, social services, for example). Application form available on the website.

Marta Danylewycz Memorial Grant, Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women

Value of award: $2,000
Length of award: 1 year
Level of study: PhD students in the latter stages of their dissertation
Criteria: Eligible to women studying women’s history, specifically women and ethnicity, women and religion, women and work, women and social reform, women and education, women and family. There are no citizenship requirements, but the student must be enrolled at a Canadian university.

Graduate Student Award of Merit, Senior Women Academic Administrators of Canada

Value of award: $2, 500
Length of award: 1 year
Level of study: MA or Ph.D.
Criteria: This program is designed to support women who demonstrate outstanding leadership in the university or general community while maintaining exemplary academic records. Women registered in masters or doctoral programs at any member institution of AUCC within a designated region are eligible to be nominated. Regions and number of awards are defined as follows, and eligibility shall rotate among them: Quebec (2009): 4 awards; West (2010): 4 awards; Ontario (2011): 4 awards; and Atlantic Provinces (2012): 3 awards. Criteria is based on the following: Outstanding academic performance, evidence of leadership, including but not limited to such things as executive positions in student organizations, participation on committees (student committees and university committees), organization of special events, conferences, etc., involvement in advocacy groups, involvement in volunteer organizations, within the campus setting and/or in the general community. Each university in the designated region may nominate, through the Dean of Graduate Studies or her/his delegate, one person for the award. The Dean shall also be responsible for the appointment of a nominating committee for the award and for providing the Selection Committee with all necessary documentation in support of the nomination, including: biographical data, curriculum vitae, academic records, and three letters of reference.
